ALA Junior Members are going for EAGLE!
ALA Junior Members are going for EAGLE!
Two Junior ALA members who are also members of Scouts BSA presented information about their Eagle projects to the Legion Family at the Post 160 September 15, 2020, meeting.
They started work on their projects on October 24th. They faced challenges of rain, cutting a tv/internet cable and increased costs of materials due to COVID. Both turned out as planned! Morgan Davis and Courtney Waybright joined Scouts BSA on February 1, 2019, when girls were admitted to the program. Both are Seniors at Campbell High School in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and aspire to be in the inaugural class of Scouts BSA Female Eagle Scouts that will be dated February 8, 2021.
Morgan joined the ALA in July. Morgan plans to enter the University of Georgia in fall 2021. Her Eagle project involves building a paved path from the parking area to the monument sign on Concord Road. This will allow safe and easy access to the sign and flagpole. She will also lead her team in adding landscaping for beautification of the area. Courtney joined the ALA in November 2014. Courtney plans to go to college in Fall 2021 – location TBD! Courtney’s project involves building and installing benches near the Flag Retirement Fire Pit and upgrading the landscaping in that area. |
These two projects represent the fourth and fifth projects to occur at American Legion Post 150 over the last four years. In 2016, Eagle Scout Ethan Burton completed a terracing improvement project to reduce erosion on the hill leading to the baseball fields. Eagle Scout, SAL Member, and American Legion Member Marshall Waybright completed his project in early 2017 that included the building of the platform and surrounding wall around the Post's sign and flag pole on Concord Road. This is the area where Eagle Candidate Morgan Davis will be building a path to and landscaping around. Eagle Scout Hunter Lysle built the Fire Pit in late 2018 to which Eagle Candidate Courtney Waybright will be adding benches and enhancing the landscaping in the area.
